At Facets Summer Film Institute, you will…
- Learn how film works as an art form and as cultural history.
- Gain the foundation and tools you need to inspire your students through film.
- Build a collection of resources and strategies to take back to your classroom.
- Watch, discuss, and be provoked by classic and contemporary films from some
of the greatest filmmakers in cinema.
It’s a summer experience that will transform you (and your students) for a lifetime!
How It Works
Film scholars provide expert instruction on film aesthetics, film history, and film techniques, including:
- The Impact of Film Editing
- Lighting, Camera Angles, and Set Design
- Narrative in Cinema
- History and Society in the Movies
- Classic Hollywood Movies

Each morning includes an introductory lecture supported by articles and handouts. In the afternoon, you’ll watch a feature film, then apply and deepen your learning through discussion, activities, and worksheets you can adapt for use in your own classroom.

When: 2013 dates TBA, from 9:00am to 4:30 pm
Where: Facets Multi-Media, 1517 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago, IL 60614 (Free parking on Fullerton and neighboring side streets.)
Meals: Breakfast foods and coffee will be provided in the morning from 9am to 9:30am.
One hour lunch break (lunch not included).
Credits: 30 CPDUs for the week.
Cost: $395; Facets Members: $350 (includes all handouts and materials). Many schools offer reimbursement for the fee. Ask your school about payment reimbursement options.
