
Chicago International Children's Film Festival Fact Sheet
* Now in its 23rd year, the CICFF is the oldest, largest and most
prestigious festival of films for children in the U.S, taking place
October 19-October 29, 2006 with 3 additional weeks for school
screenings and year round in-school Media Education Programs.
* The CICFF is the only children's festival in the world to be designated
as an 'CAcademy qualifying'D Festival by the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences. Winners in the short animated and live
action film categories may go on to compete for the Oscars ®.
* Unique among its international peers, the CICFF publishes a 120-page
curriculum each year and provides professional development workshops
for teachers.
* The CICFF sets a national leadership standard in the development of
media-based education programs that measurably improve classroom
learning. R ecognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the CICFF's
workshops and methodologies have been presented at NAEYC (the
National Association of Education for Young Children); the National Media
Education Conference and the World Summit on Media for Children.
* Hailed by press and public as "Cannes for Kids", the CICFF receives and
presents more multi-cultural films than any other children's festival worldwide.
* Annually, 1000 entries are submitted from 45 countries by independent
filmmakers and major studios. In 2005, the CICFF screened 220 films from
35 countries worldwide.
* As the launching point for international and U.S. films for children, the CICFF
programs more than 150 premieres each year, featuring 33 world premieres,
30 North American Premieres, 32 United States premieres, and 72 Chicago
premieres in 2005.
* The festival welcomes over 130 international guests and celebrities throughout
the year. All filmmakers, directors, and producers hold workshops or Q & A
sessions with children following screenings.

* In 2007, to answer the growing demands for quality children's media, the CICFF
will distribute its first 'CBEST OF FEST'D DVD featuring short, prize-winning
