During this after-school arts residency, kids work side-by-side with acclaimed animators to create short, animated films. This intensive hands-on workshop gives kids the opportunity to brainstorm story ideas, create their own animation figures, draw storyboards, design backgrounds, and learn the techniques needed to get things in motion under the animation camera. Produced in collaboration with the Poetry Foundation, this dynamic program is designed to give students actual experience in writing and reciting poetry, and and help them develop a new understanding and appreciation for this unique art form. Supported by a special curriculum and trained facilitators, Reel Poetry gives students the opportunity to view fascinating short films based on and featuring classic poetry. Reel Poetry premiered during the 2007 Festival and has been shown to over 1,360 students in the Chicago area. MORE INFO!
